Among Friends is a percussion septet dedicated to the senior class of Owasso High School, to celebrate their 2023 Midwest Clinic appearance. With its use of intricate interplay, trading solos, and dynamic contrast, this piece is designed to bring performers together in an intimate environment.

When composing the septet, Owasso director Tyler Simmons was tasked with naming the piece. His response: “How about ‘Among Friends?’ You know, because WE’RE friends!” This, of course, became the only option for the title.

Written with love and respect for deep friendship, Among Friends aims to bring young performers together through a musical endeavor through space and time.
